Care at a glance
The tomato clownfish is a deep orange-red with a single white bar behind the head; adult females turn darker and grow large, while males stay small and bright orange. In the wild it lives with bubble-tip anemones, but in the aquarium it manages perfectly well without one.
It is hardy and easy, but over the years the female in particular becomes quite dominant: she defends her corner fiercely against other fish and sometimes against your hand. Keep it as a pair in a spacious tank and do not add other clownfish species.
