Care at a glance
The maroon clownfish is the largest and by far the most combative clownfish: deep red-brown with white or gold bars and a small spine on the cheek plate. As in all clownfish the dominant individual becomes the female, and here that female can grow twice the size of the male.
An established pair defends its corner of the reef fiercely and drives off other clownfish, and sometimes even your hand. So never keep two adults of the same size together, and do not combine it with other clownfish species.
