Care at a glance
The racing nerite owes its name to the spiral line pattern that runs across its shell like racing stripes. It is one of the best algae eaters among aquarium snails and leaves living plants entirely alone.
It deposits its eggs as hard white dots on wood, stone and glass; these do not hatch in fresh water, but they do stay visible. Note that it likes to climb above the waterline, so cover the tank, and make sure there is enough calcium in the water so its shell does not erode.
