Care at a glance
The yoyo loach from northern India and Nepal owes its name to the Y- and O-shaped markings on the flanks of young fish; with age these break up into a network of blotches. It is curious, busy and constantly rummaging between stones and wood.
Keep it in a small group, because on its own it turns either withdrawn or annoying towards other bottom fish. Give it a soft substrate and plenty of hiding places, and bear in mind that it crushes snails: a snail plague disappears, but your ornamental nerites and mystery snails are not safe either.
