Care at a glance
The horned nerite from South-East Asia carries small black horns on a yellow-and-black banded shell, which makes it the most striking of the nerites. It stays small, so it also fits well in a nano tank.
It is an excellent algae eater that leaves plants entirely alone and keeps both glass and wood clean. Its hard white eggs do not hatch in fresh water, so there is no risk of a plague; do make sure the water carries enough calcium to protect the shell.
