Care at a glance
The ghost shrimp from the south-eastern United States is almost transparent, so you can see its gut and the eggs beneath a female's tail. It is often sold cheaply and in large numbers, sometimes even as feeder stock.
It is an effective cleaner that removes leftover food and film, but it is distinctly more predatory than a dwarf shrimp: very small fish and shrimp fry are not always safe. Keep it in a small group in cool to moderate water with plenty of hiding places, as it is vulnerable right after moulting.
