Care at a glance
The peaceful betta from Malaysia and Thailand is a wild-type betta: smaller and more subdued in colour than the bred veiltails, with green-blue scales and a red edge along the tail. Its name promises a little too much, but it is indeed clearly more tolerant.
In a roomy, densely planted tank you can often keep a pair together, something that rarely works with the ordinary betta. It builds a bubble nest under a leaf, jumps well and therefore needs a tight-fitting cover and calm water.
