Care at a glance

The giant sailfin molly from the Yucatán peninsula is the largest molly and carries the group's most impressive dorsal fin: in displaying males almost a half circle. It comes from hard, mineral-rich coastal water, often with a saline influence.

That sail only develops properly if the fish gets space and vegetable food as a juvenile; in too small a tank it stays behind. It grazes algae and soft plant material readily, so do not keep it in a finely aquascaped plant tank without offering vegetables.
