Care at a glance
The altum angelfish from the Orinoco and the upper Rio Negro is the tallest of the angelfish: adults are clearly taller than they are long, with a sharp notch above the eyes. The great majority of fish offered are wild caught, and that shows in their requirements.
It asks for warm, very soft and acidic water, a tall tank with vertical wood and absolute calm; large swings it tolerates badly. Count on a settling-in period in which it is prone to disease; this is a species for advanced keepers.
