Care at a glance
The x-ray tetra from the coastal rivers of the Guianas and Venezuela is almost see-through, so you can make out the silvery swim bladder and the spine. Its trademark is its flag-like fins: dorsal and anal marked in black, white and yellow.
It is remarkably tolerant and does well in harder tap water too, which makes it a rewarding beginner's schooling fish. Give it plenty of its own kind and some swimming space; it is peaceful and leaves other residents entirely alone.
