Care at a glance
The lemon tetra from the Rio Tapajós in Brazil is translucent yellow with a black-and-yellow dorsal fin and a striking red upper eye. Those delicate colours only show once it feels safe; a stressed fish turns almost colourless.
Keep it in a decent school over a dark substrate, with planting along the edges and light softened by floaters. Otherwise it is easy and undemanding; give it a mature tank and calm tankmates and it will last for years.
