Care at a glance
The glowlight tetra has no bright colours but a single orange-red line of light running from eye to tail across a translucent body, like a glowing filament. In a group against a dark background the effect is subtler than the neon tetra's, but every bit as attractive.
It is peaceful, hardy and considerably less delicate than its better-known relatives, which makes it a good choice for a first community tank. As with almost all tetras: a large group rather than a handful, soft to neutral water and subdued light with floating plants. Food has to be small enough — its mouth is modest.
