Care at a glance
The tiger shrimp gets its name from the dark, vertical stripes on a lighter body and is one of the most affordable and widely kept shrimp in the Caridina group — far more forgiving than the demanding crystal red it's closely related to. Colour forms range from brown-orange to black-and-white.
It has similar requirements to other Caridina shrimp: stable, slightly acidic to neutral water free of copper in medications or fertilisers, and a mature tank with plenty of moss or other growth to graze on. In a calm shrimp-only tank without large fish it breeds readily.
