Care at a glance

The bumblebee shrimp from the streams of southern China and Hong Kong owes its name to the black-and-white banding across its body. The trade name is applied to several similar shrimp, so ask which species you are actually buying.

It likes cooler, soft water with moss, leaf litter and wood on which biofilm can grow. It is peaceful and small, and cannot be kept with larger fish: they simply treat it as food.
