Care at a glance
The Sulawesi cardinal shrimp occurs only in Lake Matano on Sulawesi and is deep red with white spots and white front legs. Its extremely restricted range makes the species vulnerable in the wild, so buy captive-bred stock where possible.
It asks for warm, hard and alkaline water that is above all stable: swings in temperature or water values it tolerates badly. Keep it in a mature species tank with rock and algae growth, and add no fish that will harass it.
