Care at a glance

The chocolate rabbit snail from Lake Towuti in Sulawesi has a dark brown, tapering shell and is one of the largest species in this group. Like its relatives it moves calmly across the bottom, turning over sand and leaf litter in search of food remains.

It needs warm, hard water with enough calcium; in soft water its shell becomes visibly eroded within months. It reproduces slowly, lives long and fits well in a calm tank with a soft sand floor.

Good to know

  • Digger — needs fine sand
