Care at a glance
Rabbit snails come from the ancient lakes of Sulawesi and owe their name to their wrinkled head with antennae, which recalls a rabbit's face. They move deliberately across the bottom, searching sand and leaf litter for detritus and soft films.
They reproduce extremely slowly: one large young at a time, in a chalky capsule, so there is no risk of a plague. Give them warm, hard and calcium-rich water to protect the shell, and note that they will occasionally nibble soft plants.
