Care at a glance
Star grass gets its name from the small white flowers it can produce above the waterline, but in the aquarium it is mainly valued for its fresh green, grassy leaves on fast-growing stems — an easy way to fill out the background quickly.
Given enough light and a bit of extra feeding it grows sturdily and branches heavily, which means regular trimming is needed to stop it swamping the rest of the planting. Without CO2 it remains perfectly viable, just noticeably slower and with smaller leaves.
