Care at a glance

The powder brown tang is built much like the powder blue but, with its brown body, white cheek patch and orange-black tail fin, copes just a little better with disease pressure — though it remains sensitive to stress and poor water quality.

Give it a large, mature tank with plenty of swimming room and rockwork to graze on, and feed vegetable food several times a day to keep its digestion moving. Do not combine it with other brown or blue tangs — it will not tolerate them.
