Care at a glance

The peacock gudgeon from Papua New Guinea is blue-silver with yellow and red markings and carries a black eye spot at the base of the tail. It does not so much swim as hover in short bursts from spot to spot among the planting.

It is a cave spawner: the male lures a female into a tube or hollow and then guards the eggs himself. It is peaceful and small enough for a nano tank, but it genuinely wants meat on the menu, so feed small frozen or live foods.
