Care at a glance

The Odessa barb comes from Myanmar and was only described scientifically in 2008, although it had been circulating in the hobby for decades before that. Males carry a broad, fiery red band along the flank; females stay silvery brown.

It is lively but peaceful and copes well with cooler room temperatures, so in many living rooms a light heater or none at all will do. Keep it in a group with a few extra females, as the males will then display to each other constantly.
