Care at a glance
The bloodfin tetra comes from the Paraná basin in Argentina and Paraguay and is silvery white with strikingly blood-red fins. Being a subtropical fish, it tolerates cooler temperatures than most characins.
It is lively, hardy and, with good care, lives remarkably long for a small tetra. Keep it in a school in a long tank with some swimming space; it is peaceful, although its pace can unintentionally unsettle calm, long-finned fish.
