Care at a glance
The Madagascar lace plant is one of the most striking aquatic plants in the world: its leaves consist of veins only, so they look like green lacework. It comes from cool, flowing rivers in Madagascar and grows from an elongated tuber.
It is decidedly demanding: it wants cooler, clean, gently flowing water, plenty of nutrients and as little film on the leaves as possible, because that clogs the lace pattern. It also needs a regular rest period in which it drops its leaves; the tuber then sprouts again afterwards.
