Care at a glance
The banana plant owes its name to the cluster of thick, curved tubers at its base, which look strikingly like a bunch of miniature bananas. In them it stores reserves, which helps it get going again quickly after being moved.
Important when planting: leave those tubers lying on top of the substrate and do not bury them, because buried they rot. With enough light it sends round floating leaves to the surface; cut those off if you want to keep the plant low and compact.
