Care at a glance
The clown killifish from West Africa is a tiny surface fish with black bars on a cream body and a tail marked like a red-and-blue rocket flame. It hangs almost permanently just below the water surface among floating plants.
It needs very small food and, in the company of larger fish, literally disappears from view, so keep it separately or with equally small species. Provide a tight-fitting cover, because as a true surface fish it jumps at the slightest fright.
