Care at a glance
The ropefish from West Africa looks more like a snake than a fish: elongated, with small pectoral fins and a row of finlets along the back instead of one dorsal fin. It is an ancient lineage that can also gulp air at the surface with a primitive lung.
It is inquisitive and escapes through the smallest opening, so seal every gap around hoses and filters. Keep it with fish too large to swallow, provide caves, and feed meaty or frozen food in the evening, since by day it stays hidden.
