Care at a glance
The red tiger lotus grows from a bulb and produces red-brown, mottled leaves that stand like triangular shields on long stalks. It is one of the few aquarium plants with genuinely dark red foliage that makes no special demands on CO2.
As soon as it settles in it sends leaves to the surface, where they float and shade the rest of the tank. If you want to keep it as a compact submersed plant, cut those floating leaves off at the stalk; the plant responds by producing more submersed foliage.
