Care at a glance
Lobophyllia is a large, fleshy brain coral with thick, wavy folds in colours ranging from red and green to almost neon orange. By day you see only that smooth tissue; at night the coral extends fine feeding tentacles to capture food.
It is one of the easier large-polyp stony corals, under moderate light and gentle flow, and grows slowly but steadily. Place it on the bottom or on a flat piece of rock with some space around it, because it swells considerably and can crowd out neighbours.
