Leptastrea forms a smooth crust over rock with small, closely set polyp calices, often in warm shades of orange, green or yellow. It is a tough, unassuming coral that asks for little.
It tolerates subdued light and moderate flow and grows quietly across the rock, rarely overgrowing adjacent colonies. That makes it an excellent choice for a shaded spot, or for someone just starting with stony corals.
