Care at a glance
Dwarf hairgrass forms a dense lawn of thin, upright blades and is a classic for the foreground of an aquascape. It spreads via runners that travel under the sand and keep producing new tufts.
For a truly closed carpet it needs plenty of light and preferably CO2 injection; under weaker light it grows longer and thinner and starts stretching upwards. Plant it in small tufts with a little space between them, and it closes up faster than if you plant everything in one clump.
