The dwarf cryptocoryne is the smallest of all cryptocorynes and stays low to the ground with its stiff, dark green leaves. Unlike most species in this genus it therefore works as a foreground plant, although it remains a slow grower.
Expect patience: it takes months for a group of separate plantlets to close into a small field. It asks for a little more light than its relatives and a nutrient-rich substrate; after that, leave it alone, because replanting costs it weeks of growth all over again.
