Care at a glance
The celestial pearl danio was only discovered in 2006 and became so popular within a year that the wild sites in Myanmar were all but emptied. Nearly everything in the trade is now captive-bred, which is just as well. It is a tiny fish with pearl-white spots on a deep blue body and bright red fins.
Despite its looks it is not a true schooling fish but a group animal mostly occupied with pecking order: males spread their fins and chase each other around without real harm. Give them a densely planted tank with plenty of sight breaks for that. They come from cool ponds, so a heater is often unnecessary — room temperature does fine.
