The zebra danio is a tireless swimmer that brings the upper layer of the tank to life. It is hardy, tolerant and one of the few popular species genuinely comfortable in cooler water, which means it even thrives in an unheated indoor aquarium.
Such an active school mainly needs length: better a long tank with open swimming space than a tall planted showcase. Keep the tank well covered, because a danio at full speed will clear the rim with ease. Beyond that it is a contented omnivore that shrugs off most beginner mistakes.
