Care at a glance
The peppered cory is one of the oldest aquarium fish around and gets its name from the grey-brown, pepper-like speckling on its body. It's notably tolerant of cooler temperatures and does fine in an unheated tank, which sets it apart from most other Corydoras.
Like other corys, it's happiest in a group on a soft, non-abrasive substrate it can root through for leftover food. It's a calm, active bottom-dweller that suits a temperate or tropical community tank equally well and rarely causes any trouble.
