Care at a glance

Sterbai cory from the Guaporé drainage is recognisable by the white spots on a dark head and the warm orange pectoral and pelvic fins. It is one of the few corydoras that tolerates higher temperatures well, which is why it is often kept alongside discus.

It combs the bottom with its barbels all day, so give it fine sand: on sharp gravel those barbels wear down and become infected. Keep it in a group and make sure food actually reaches the bottom; it will not thrive on what the fish above happen to drop.

Good to know

  • Digger — needs fine sand
