Care at a glance
The raccoon butterflyfish owes its name to the black eye mask with a white border, reminiscent of a raccoon. It is one of the hardiest butterflyfish and usually takes prepared food readily in the aquarium, which within this group is far from a given.
In the wild it eats, among other things, the polyps of corals and anemones; it will clear up aiptasia, but it nibbles your ornamental corals just as happily. So keep it in a tank without sensitive corals, with plenty of swimming space and a varied diet of meaty and algae-based foods.
