Care at a glance

The longnose butterflyfish is bright yellow with a black-and-white marked face and a long, thin snout with which it searches crevices and coral branches for small crustaceans and worms. It is one of the few butterflyfish that reliably takes prepared food in the aquarium.

It leaves most stony corals alone but may pick at feather dusters, soft corals and cleaner shrimp, so in a mixed reef some watchfulness is in order. Give it a spacious, tall tank with plenty of crevices and several small feedings a day.
