Care at a glance
The phoenix rasbora is one of the smallest "mini rasboras", like the chili rasbora it's often confused with: a deep red to orange-red drop of a fish from Southeast Asian peat swamps. Unlike the chili rasbora it lacks the black lateral line, giving it a more even, fiery colour overall.
Like all Boraras species it shows best in soft, acidic water with a dark substrate and subdued lighting — hard, bare water quickly leaves it pale. Keep it in a large, tight school in a small, calm tank and choose equally gentle, similarly sized tankmates; larger fish tend to treat it as a snack rather than a neighbour.
