The five-banded barb from the peat swamps of Borneo and the Malay Peninsula has five black bars on an orange-brown background. It resembles the tiger barb, but is considerably calmer and more modest in character.
It is a shy fish that needs soft, slightly acidic water with leaf litter, wood and subdued light to feel at home. Keep it in a group and without busy tankmates; in brightly lit, hard water it stays pale and hides.
