Care at a glance

The flying fox from South-East Asia is often confused with the Siamese algae eater in shops: it has the same black lengthwise stripe, but with a golden band above it and clearly coloured, white-edged fins. Only the true Siamese algae eater eats brush algae; the flying fox barely touches it.

When young it is still calm, but over the years it claims a territory and chases off its own kind and other bottom fish. So keep just one, in a roomy tank with wood, stones and enough spots to stay out of each other's sight.
