Care at a glance

The clown barb comes from Borneo and is one of the larger, more colourful barbs: an orange-red body with a scattering of irregular black blotches, which together with its solid build makes it a striking presence among the smaller barbs.

Its temperament matches its size: it's boisterous and a touch bolder than average, and can nip fins on slow, veil-tailed tankmates. Keep it in a proper group in a roomy tank with sturdy planting, since a small group or too little space actually makes it more tense and aggressive towards its own kind.
