Care at a glance
The naso tang owes its nickname to the striking orange lips and yellow mask of adults; males also develop long streamers on the tail lobes. On each side of the tail base it carries two sharp, orange-rimmed scalpels, with which tangs defend themselves.
It grows very large and is a tireless swimmer, so only an aquarium with real length is suitable. It is a grazer that mainly eats brown macroalgae; offer algae sheets daily alongside what it takes from the rock, and note that it can be sensitive just after purchase.
