Care at a glance

The majano anemone resembles aiptasia but is stockier, with shorter tentacles that often have a slightly bulbous tip. It too arrives as a hitchhiker on live rock and spreads from a single specimen across the whole reef.

Its stinging cells are strong enough to burn corals, so waiting only makes the problem bigger. Remove it as you would aiptasia, with an injection product, or let the matted filefish clear it up; tearing it off is counterproductive, because leftover pieces of foot simply grow on.
