The golden pencilfish from northern South America is a slim, cigar-shaped little fish with a dark lengthwise stripe and red fin bases. A nice detail: at night it switches pattern, with slanting bars appearing instead of the stripe.
It has a small mouth and therefore needs fine food; coarse flake is largely ignored. Keep it in a group in a calm, planted tank with floating plants; it likes to hold station just below the surface.
