Fox coral

Care at a glance

The fox coral is one of the easiest LPS corals: a jagged, ridged skeleton rim from which large, ruffled polyps in soft green to pastel pink emerge during the day, without the long sweeper tentacles of hammer or torch corals. In care it sits somewhere between a bubble coral and a mushroom.

Place it low in the tank, on the sand or at the base of the rocks, in low light and gentle flow; with too much light or flow the tissue stays retracted. It does not sting and has no sweepers, so it may sit close to other corals, but give it room of its own, because a healthy specimen expands far beyond its skeleton. It needs no extra feeding.
