Cyphastrea forms a thin crust over rock with small, round polyp calices dotted across the surface; often a brightly coloured polyp contrasts with base tissue of a different colour. It is one of the most rewarding encrusting stony corals.
It tolerates subdued light and moderate flow and grows slowly but steadily across the rock. That makes it extremely suitable for lower spots in the tank, where many other stony corals cannot cope.
