Care at a glance
The croaking gourami is the larger cousin of the sparkling gourami and comes from slow waters and rice paddies across South-East Asia. It too produces clearly audible croaking clicks when displaying, often in the evening once the lights go out.
It likes a densely planted tank with floating plants and warm, calm water where it can hang among the stems. Feed small live or frozen foods, as it is decidedly carnivorous; large or busy tankmates make it shy and keep it away from the food.
