Care at a glance
Crinum calamistratum grows from a bulb and produces very narrow, dark green leaves with strongly crinkled margins that run through the water like corkscrews. It grows large and old, and a mature plant fills a good part of the back wall on its own.
Its leaves are tough, so even plant-eating fish usually leave it alone, which makes it handy in a cichlid tank. Plant the bulb half into the substrate, not fully buried, and then leave it be; it needs time, but keeps going for years.
