Care at a glance
Christmas moss owes its name to the branching of its shoots: they sit in pairs, angled downwards, so each frond resembles a small fir tree. It is a little coarser and more decorative than ordinary java moss.
Tie or glue it onto wood, rock or a mesh mat; it attaches itself with fine holdfasts. It grows slowly and likes cooler, clean, gently flowing water; trim it now and then, because unpruned moss turns brown inside and traps debris.
