Care at a glance

With its sharp line between purple up front and bright yellow behind, the bicolor dottyback is one of the most colourful small predators for the reef tank — and at under eight centimetres, also one of the most compact.

Do not let the size fool you: dottybacks are notoriously territorial and will chase off similar-shaped fish such as the royal gramma without mercy. Keep only one per tank, add it last, and provide plenty of rock crevices to retreat into.
